11 Αυγούστου 1996. Δερύνεια. Ο ξάδερφός του Τάσος Ισαάκ ξυλοκοπείται μέχρι θανάτου, μέρα μεσημέρι, μπροστά στις κάμερες, μπροστά στον κόσμο.
14 Αυγούστου 1996. Τρεις μέρες αργότερα. Η μέρα της κηδείας του Τάσου. Εκατοντάδες μαζεύονται στο οδόφραγμα της Δερύνειας για να αφήσουν στεφάνια εκεί που δολοφονήθηκε ο Τάσος.
Και τότε — μέσα από το πλήθος, πέρα από τους Κυανόκρανους, μέσα στη νεκρή ζώνη — ο Σολωμός ξεφεύγει. Ενώ άλλοι προσπαθούν να τον σταματήσουν, τρέχει προς τον ιστό. Μόνος. Για να κατεβάσει με τα γυμνά του χέρια την τουρκική σημαία που κυματίζει πάνω από κατεχόμενο κυπριακό έδαφος.
....Η σφαίρα τον βρίσκει στο λαιμό.
Ήταν 26 χρονών. Έθαβε τον ξάδερφό του. Αποφάσισε ότι κάποιες σημαίες δεν πρέπει να κυματίζουν. Και έτρεξε....
Το όνομά του ήταν Σολωμός Σολωμού. Να το θυμάσαι.

August 11, 1996. Deryneia. His cousin, Tassos Isaac, is beaten to death in broad daylight, in front of the cameras, in front of everyone.
August 14, 1996. Three days later. The day of Tasos’s funeral. Hundreds gather at the roadblock in Deryneia to lay wreaths where Tasos was murdered.
And then - through the crowd, past the Blue Helmets, into the buffer zone - Solomos breaks free. While others try to stop him, he runs toward the flagpole. Alone. To tear down with his bare hands the Turkish flag flying over occupied Cypriot territory.
....The bullet hits him in the neck.
He was 26 years old. He was burying his cousin. He decided that some flags should not fly. And he ran....
His name was Solomos Solomou. Remember it.
